Whale Woman No.1

In the Whale Woman Series I was trying to fuse the image of a woman, a bird, and the wondrous creature that we call a whale. The idea I was entertaining during the creation of these paintings was of a human being that could experience the knowing of other creatures, a knowing or imagination that has nothing to do with what one is taught as a human being. I was thinking about the way that everything we know is a result of what others have taught us. I wanted to have an original thought, so I tried to think in the way of a creature that was simultaneously a being of the air, the sea, and the land. How might this being preceive the world around her? It is about a mind that wants to be free.
